VALATIE FREE LIBRARY 2017 SUMMER PROGRAM

Reading Challenge:  July 1 through August 11.  READ BOOKS!  WIN ICE CREAM! Read 6 picture books (pre-k – elementary school) or 3 chapter books (elementary +) and win a free soft ice cream cone certificate from O’Kenny’s.

Mondays, July 3 – August 7 / 1st Presbyterian Church, Church St., Valatie:  Delicious, nutritious lunches11 a.m. – 12 noon:  prepare all or part of the day’s lunch.  Noon – 1 p.m.: Lunch is served.  Monday Lunches are part of a combined program of the Valatie Free Library and the First Presbyterian Church. **Throughout the summer, 5 days a week, the Churches in the ICC School District will be serving lunches at the First Presbyterian Church from 12 noon – 1 p.m. There is no charge for lunch, and all are welcome.

Story Hour for Preschoolers through Grade 1 – July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8 (10:30 a.m.)  Children and parents/caregivers are invited for stories, activities, presentations and crafts.
Comic Jam – Comics Workshop for Kids, ages 11 and older – July 11 (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.) Join the comics party; create a group comic story.
Crafts Connections with Mary Young for Kids, ages 8 and older – July 18 (1 – 3 p.m.) **The second session of this workshop will be held on Wednesday, July 19 from 1 – 3 p.m.**
Art Institute of Columbia County’s Program based on Emily Dickinson’s poem, “The Railway Train” for Kids, ages 5 – 7 / July 25 (2 – 3 p.m.)  Listen to the poem; make a travel poster.
Art Institute of Columbia County’s Program based on Walt Whitman’s poem, “I Hear America Singing” for Kids, ages 8 and older / August 1 (2 – 4 p.m.).  Draw and ink a design on a Styrofoam plate.
Makerspace Program – 3D Printing and Robotics Workshop for Kids, ages 7 and older / August 1 (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.)

June 28: The Storycrafters present, “Story by Story:  Building a Better, Gentler World One Story at a Time”
July 5:    Doug Bartels presents a family-friendly, energetic magic show with lots of audience participation.  It will leave you amazed!
July 12:  Jill Leinung returns with a special building a better world presentation.
July 19:  ****Second Session of Mary Young’s Craft Connections.  THIS ONE WEDNESDAY PROGRAMONLY TAKES PLACE IN THE LIBRARY FROM 1 – 3 P.M****
July 19:  Anita Sanchez presents: “Animal Builders,” a program with lots of participation, a craft activity – building  a nest supply box for the
birds  and a close-up look at real nests, cocoons and other natural objects.
July 26:  The Children’s Museum at Saratoga presents “Build Up a Better World.”  Learn about engineering and sustainability and do a    building project using the museum’s Rig-a-Ma-Jig Jr. Set.
August 2:   CMOST Museum presents “Reduce, Recycle, Reinvent.”  Kids will upcycle materials to create new crayons and collaborative
artwork.

July 6, 13, 20:  Drawing Class with Margot for Ages 8 – 11/12 (1 – 3 p.m.)
July 27:  Learn About Moths with Michelle from Mud Creek.  Make a moth craft and study one of Earth’s most mysterious insects up close and personal!  Ages 5 and older (1-2 p.m.)

August 3:  Animal Embassy presents a family program, “Nature’s Architects.” (6:30 – 7:30 p.m.)  This program featuring a variety of exotic animals is hosted by both the Valatie and Kinderhook Libraries.

July 14:  Making and Using Indigo Dye with Susannah White from Carapace Farm Puppetry for all ages (1 –  3 p.m.)  Learn the history of this ancient dye, make dye and then dye a placemat or tie-dye a shirt.  DYE WASHES OFF.
