The deadline for submitting photos to the annual Valatie Free Library Photo Contest is fast approaching. All photos are due by Friday, March 24th. Click on 2017 Photo Competition / Exhibition at the top of this page to copy and print a submission form which must be attached to each photo you submit. There is no specific theme for the exhibition so choose up to three of your favorite photos dealing with any subject and bring them into the Library. Judging will take place on March 28th, and the exhibition will be at the Valatie Senior Center (Williams Street / Valatie) on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. Call us (758-9321) if you have any questions!

We will be accepting photos for the annual VFL Photo Competition and Exhibition from Monday, March 6th through Friday, March 24th. Photos with accompanying submission forms may be submitted at the Library – 1036 Kinderhook Street / Valatie, New York. The exhibition of all photos received will be held at the Valatie Senior Center on Williams Street in the Village of Valatie from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 6th. You can still sign up for our program on Friday, February 24, 10 a.m. – noon when Mary Young presents Fabulous Foil. Join us to make free standing sculptures with aluminum foil as we turn this thin material into 3-D figures and animals. Go home and turn leftover foil into your own creations. This program is for kids, ages 11 and older. Maximum enrollment for this program is 15 so call soon (758-9321) to register.

THE ZIKA VIRUS: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
On Tuesday, November 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the Library, Victoria from the Columbia County Health Department will discuss the latest information about Zika. Stop by or call to register or, if you find yourself free that night, just drop in.
Join us on Monday, November 28th at 7 p.m. in the Library to work on your knitting/crochet projects. Share ideas, get tips, have fun! Newcomers of any skill level, even beginners, are welcome to join us.
Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and parents/caregivers are invited to join us for stories, crafts and snack. Posie, our therapy dog friend, will be here too.

Book Club – Monday, March 14 and Monday, April 11 at 7 p.m. in the Library. New York Times Best Selling Author Chris Bohjalian will join us in March via Skype or Speaker Phone.
Knitting / Crochet – Monday, March 21 and Monday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Library. Newcomers of all skill levels are always welcome.
Seasonal Plate Craft – Friday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Create an easy but very attractive snack / dessert plate. Please register by March 7th so that we have the needed supplies.
Drawing Exercises with Margot – Tuesdays, April 5, 12, 19 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Library. Each week a new technique will be presented by local artist, Margot Curran.
Cake Decorating with Lori – Fridays, April 8 and 29 at 6:30 in the Library. Each week a new technique will be presented. Please bring an unfrosted sheet cake or cake layer with you to class. Tips, bags and frosting will be provided.
For All Ages
Submission of Photos for the Annual VFL Photo Competition – Tuesday, March 8 through Saturday, April 2 during Library hours. Matted photos must be submitted at the Library. Children, teens, adults, seniors are invited to submit up to three photos per person to the competition.
Photo Competition – Sunday, April 10 from 2 – 4 p.m. Join us to see the photos submitted by your friends and neighbors. Coffee / Soft Drinks and Desserts will be served. Location is being finalized.
